Heiderst German Shorthaired Pointer Kennels were established in 1973.  Our kennels are in the picturesque Adelaide Hills at Meadows.  The area was originally dairy country and is now dotted with horse properties and wineries.  We are on 24 acres of lush pasture and beautiful gum trees.

Our foundation bitch was purchased in 1973, from Markheim Kennels here in South Australia. Within five years she had obtained titles in Conformation, Obedience and Retrieving, taking out the Top Bitch Award in all three disciplines in the same year. The Gundog Club of South Australia's annual awards now features the Markheim Debonair Trophy in memory of this achievement.

We had previously enjoyed many years of success in the Obedience Field with Shetland Sheepdogs, most notably a bitch named Heidi.  It is after her our prefix was derived, with 'erst' being the German word for first.  Originally the kennels were founded by Raylene and Alex Smith but in more recent years we have been joined by our daughter Liat O'Malley. The exhibiting, training and caring of the dogs is shared between us with most of the Shorthairs kennelled at Raylene and Alex's property whilst the Vizslas live just up the road with Liat.
